With the momentous events from last month, it is time to update the infographic about same-sex marriage. In international news, the overturning of DOMA and Proposition 8 means that the US joins thirteen other countries in acknowledging of same-sex marriage.
These other countries are Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, and Sweden. Uruguay and New Zealand may join the group in August 2013.
In addition to recognizing same sex marriages, it also means that these couples and their families are protected from the same rights and benefits as opposite-sex couples.
UPDATE: An earlier version of this infographic did not show that Massachusetts was the first state to legalize gay marriage. We realize what a momentous event this was and have added it. However, the first same sex marriage took place in San Francisco, California.
We offer our congratulations to the LGBT community.
