Thought Bride

The process of buying your wedding dress can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a bride’s life. After all, it is one of the most important dresses that you will ever buy. But you may be in for some little shocks and possible frustrations when it comes to buying that dress; that know one tells you about beforehand. If you haven’t started looking yet, here are a few things you should really know before you begin your search.

You will get super sweaty

This shouldn’t surprise you. Trying on and taking off a dress requires lifting your arms up and down, in addition to wearing layers and layers of various fabrics for a only a few minutes can really work up a sweat. Even though the AC may be revved up, the dressing rooms are not usually well ventilated.

Salespeople will see you naked

Random salespeople, that you have never met before, won’t care about your demure demeanor, they will help you into your dress and even your undergarments. (And sometimes, not in the most polite way either) At upscale boutiques, a lot of salespeople are crunched for time; they want to help you because they can put the dress on faster than you can.

The dressing room mirror doesn’t give the whole picture

While you will be standing for a while on your wedding day, but during the reception what will you be doing? Dancing and sitting. When you find a dress that piques your interest, sit in it. What does it look like when you are sitting down? Also, consider doing a little dance in front of the mirror. You may feel silly but it does give you a better idea of what the dress will look like. Does the top fall down- if it’s strapless? Does it bunch up and look frumpy? Your wedding is a highly photographed event, you won’t be happy with the outcome if there are pictures of you constantly pulling up your dress and the like.

Undergarments change the dress

If you really like a type of wedding gown, for example mermaid wedding dresses, but can’t help focusing on a problem area, don’t immediately eliminate it. Ask yourself; can it be fixed with some good shape wear? Invest in some Spanx or a higher end corset. They will make a world of difference.

Certain styles may surprise you

You may be convinced of the cut of dress and material that will flatter you the best. But you may be surprised by some dresses that you try on. Keep an open mind.
