A Drink To Remember

Champagne

"The Martini: the only American invention as perfect as the sonnet"- H. L. Mencken

My to-be and I had been debating over the last week over a very important issue: what will be the elixir of life that drives our wedding? That is, what alcoholic beverages will we be serving?

He was rather keen on open bar, with endless supply of beers and spirits. I was a little skeptical. That was just asking for his old fraternity brothers to drink themselves into oblivion, like that infamous Sigma Pi party on Greek row during rush week in 2003. Oh boy, I think I'm still recovering from that night.

Luckily (for me) when he saw how much it would set us back, it was back to the old drawing board.

This morning he came up to me with a genius idea: "We really need something that will mix the classiness of your ladies, and the general debauchery of a gentleman's club for my boys...What are your thoughts on a limited open bar with beer and two signature cocktails? Then we can have 2 bottles of champagne per table for the toast, and anything else they can fork over their own cash?"

As I said, I'm marrying Batman; ridiculously good looking, genius, and in general is quite awesome.

Have you ever thought about having a signature cocktail that represents you or the theme of your wedding? For example, a beach wedding might serve unlimited Mai Tais and Pina Coladas, whereas a formal sit down leans towards Highballs (Scotch and Coke, Gin and Tonic etc) for the gentleman and fruity martinis for the ladies.

There are thousands of cocktail combinations combining different liquers and fruits, to create your own taste. Garnish it using the same flower in your bouquet for that extra personalized touch.

Handy hint: Don't make a drink that is too strong otherwise you'll be left with a very messy night. Unless that's what you're into.

Find inspiration from online or bartender apps for your phone, or even more fun, get your bartender skills on and mix and match until you find something that's completely you.
