Engagement Photo Tips

Sweet Word

Why take engagement photos? Often times, they're included in your photographer's wedding package and a great opportunity to learn to work with a photographer. Not only will your photographer be able to learn all your best angles -- very important -- but you'll also figure out what works and doesn't work. Also, you can use your photos as part of your Save the Dates, wedding decor, or even show them during a slideshow during your reception.

So that, you're all signed up for your first model assignment, here are some great prep tips!

1) Make Time for Some TLC

Even if you're not normally a makeup person, you should spend some time pampering yourself. It doesn't have to mean a full on spa treatment, but you should spend some extra in hair and makeup. Not only will you look great, but you'll feel confident and that will totally show up in your pictures.

For a quick, natural, in-home spa special, try a yogurt and honey mask. All you need is a few tablespoons of unflavored yogurt and a squirt of honey. Apply it to your clean face and wash off after ten or fifteen minutes. The lactic acid in the yogurt will soften your skin and the honey will leave it feeling smooth and soft.

2) Be Kind to Your Feet

Engagement shoots often take place in multiple locations so stiletto shoes might not be a great choice. For the best of both worlds, wear a pair and cute flats, but bring along a sexy pair of heels. Then you'll have two shoe choices and your feet will be blister-free.

3)Take Direction

Even if it sounds awkward, trust your photographer. He or she may ask you to unnatural poses, but give it a go! You'll also have plenty of ordinary photos, so why not take a risk or two?

4) Eat!

There's this quote I love: "One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." Eat something about an hour before the shoot, and bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated!

5) Have fun!

Remember that this is something fun that you and your partner are doing together! Remember to interact with with him or her, and if you're running low on smiles and dreamy looks, you can always think about what brought you two together. If you have a good time, your photos will undoubtedly look amazing.
