Fitting Tips for Your Wedding Dress

Finding the perfect fit

Hello Readers!

Every bride wants to look her best for her wedding. Many of you will make lifestyle changes like hitting the gym and eating healthier. Whether you're doing a major weight loss regimen or just want to add some muscle tone on your arms, your body shape and size might change before your wedding day. What can you do to make sure your dress fits perfectly?

Tip 1: Get great measurements

Without accurate measurements, you might now even buy the right size. All wedding-dress manufacturers have different size charts. So even if you wear size 6 jeans, you might have to order a size 8 or 10 wedding gown.

It's hard to measure your own body so it's best to ask a friend to help you with the tape measure. Wear the same undergarments and shoes that you will wear on your wedding day. Also, stand with your legs six inches apart. Please check out Simply Bridal's How to Measure page for more detailed instructions for our gowns.

Tip 2: Buy the dress that fits now

It's easy to take dresses in, but very difficult --and sometimes impossible-- to let out. If you plan to lose a lot of weight, it's best to put off ordering the dress until it's closer to the wedding. Since Simply Bridal gowns take about a month to arrive, you may want to order our gowns two to three months ahead of time.

Tip 3: Budget time for alterations

Schedule at least two alteration appointments. However, leave room for a third appointment if you plan to lose a lot of weight. You want to ensure a custom fit. Examine yourself from every angle. You might need a friend to help you do this. Sit, stand, raise your arms over your head, and twirl. Does it still look fantastic? If it doesn't, don't hesitate to schedule another appointment.

Tip 4: Maintain your weight

Once you have your last fitting, you need to maintain your weight. Some dresses are more forgiving, but form fitting or strapless dresses can bulge or slip. Remember that a well-fitting dress is better than a skinnier you in an ill-fitting dress.
