How to Dress for a Post-Wedding Brunch

Thoughtful Bride

Hosting a post-wedding brunch is a great way to spend extra time with loved ones, but can create some wardrobe challenges. Of course, every new bride wants to look great for every wedding-related event, but may not have time to change before heading to the airport.

Dresses

A dress is the traditional option for looking put-together at a post-wedding brunch, but may not be comfortable for a plane ride. If you will be heading straight to the airport and want to wear a dress, consider wearing a maxi dress. Maxi dresses are usually casual enough for everyday wear, but are still appropriate for a small gathering. The length and looseness of the skirt will be comfortable enough for a long plane ride, and a pair of tights or leggings can be worn underneath for extra warmth. They are great for traveling to warm locations, as well. Short dresses are not the best choice for an airplane, so if you choose to wear one during your brunch, be sure to pack an extra outfit in your purse for a quick change before leaving the party.

Separates

Separates are great compromise, and are often the most comfortable wardrobe option for traveling. By wearing a separate top and bottom, you can mix and match as needed. For example, you can wear a skirt for the brunch, and throw a pair of shorts in your bag to change into before leaving. You can even slip the shorts on underneath your skirt if you don't have room to pack any extra clothing. A pair of dress slacks and a blouse will be appropriate for almost any event, and will also travel well.

Footwear

Heels look great with dresses and skirts, but are not a practical option for airplanes. Of course, you can slip your heels off once on the plane, but if there were to be an emergency, heels would be the worst possible footwear choice. Having a pair of flip-flops on hand is a great option, but it may be difficult to find a place to put your heels after the brunch, especially if your suitcases are already stuffed. Instead, consider wearing ballet flats. They are cute enough to go with most outfits, and are still comfortable for travel.

If you are hosting a post-wedding brunch at home, you will have a lot more options for attire. Most of the post-wedding brunch guests will be close family and friends, and will understand that you are heading to the airport. Whether you are having a formal or casual brunch, a little bit of creative planning will ensure that you look great at the party, while still being comfortable en route to your honeymoon destination.
