One of a Kind Favors

One-of-a-kind wedding favors should say something important about your personalities and interests. Don't stop with the following suggestions. Use them as a springboard that will help you develop your own personal concepts. That way, your guests get to go home with something that really says something about you as a couple.
Homebrew Favors
If you're into making your own homebrews, set aside a bottled batch for your guests. You might want to stick to traditional ingredients (hops, barley, etc), or you could use ingredients that honor the season of your wedding (think blueberries, strawberries, and other seasonal fruits). Come up with a creative name and make a label for your concoction. The actual taste is secondary. Your primary interest is making a cool favor that guests will want to keep on their shelves.
Thanks for the (Flash Drive) Memories
Give each guests a drive that they can use to store photos from the evening. If you have the budget and know-how, set up a website that will let them explore and download pictures directly to the flash drive. You've essentially given them a photo album of the event (of course, it can also include movies and audio files) that takes advantage of modern technology.
Make Your Own Dessert
You have dessert covered tonight, but you can also give your guests dessert mixes that will match your wedding cake. Meet with your cake maker to create a make-your-own version of your cake. It can include the same flour, chocolate, and other ingredients in your wedding cake (try putting the ingredients in layers in a box or tube). Of course, your average guest won't know how to put it all together as well as your professional cake-maker, but some well-made directions should at least ensure they're edible.
Plants, Herbs, Succulents
Plants can act as a combination wedding favor/centerpiece. Decorate your tables with a variety of herbs, succulents, cacti, and other durable plants. This can really look spectacular. As a big bonus on your end: ask the guests to take at least one plant home with them. They can put them in their gardens, line them along their windowsills, or do whatever else they want. The main thing is that you don't have to clean them up after a long day!
Huddle down with your spouse-to-be and spend an evening coming up with wedding favor ideas. Write them all down, even if they sound ridiculous. Scratch that, write them down especially if they sound ridiculous. That's often where the best ideas are.
