Pearly Whites 101
Worried about that winning smile? Well, here are some tips and tricks to pull off your whitest and brightest smile. Although, you can have your photographer digitally whiten your teeth, your teeth won't be magically whitened for your guests' photographs. Here are some several methods for whitening your teeth, and who doesn't want whiter teeth?
There are many home remedies and products that you can buy at your local drugstore. One of the key ingredients is peroxide. It forms bubbles and lifts stains from enamel. This can be found in whitening strips, mouth wash, paint on whiteners, whitening trays, and whitening tooth paste. However, the peroxide may increase sensitivity of teeth and gums. For an even lighter touch, you can try the traditional method of baking soda on a tooth brush.
This works best with light or yellow stains that are on the surface level of your teeth. Or darker stains, you will need to go to the dentist.
At the Dentist
Dentists use much stronger whitening agents and teeth can go as much as ten shades whiter in a single visit. If you have sensitive gums, the dentist can also apply gel that temporarily numbs your gums. However, you'll have be careful what you eat and drink because your enamel will absorb liquids.
You can also use make up to make your teeth appear whiter. Bright red lipstick can make your teeth appear brighter and whiter. Every woman can wear red lipstick, but different shades will match their skin tone.
If you do undergo a whitening treatment, you can prolong the effects by limiting your intake of foods that stain like cigarettes, caffeine, and red wine or by rinsing your mouth afterwards. Of course, you'll also have to practice healthy dental hygiene like regular brushing and flossing.
