Wedding Caricatures
Wedding photo alternatives

Last weekend I donated some books and got a caricature of myself painted by a guy with a mustache and in a hipster hat. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have a wedding photographer --wedding portraits are a must have, photo booths are fun-- but wouldn't a wedding caricature artist be awesome!
Granted, for large weddings you need to hire a small army of artists but for small intimate weddings, this can totally replace the favor. I love how interactive it is and how it can keep guests busy.
At the charity event, we were registered when we arrived and our portraits were done super systematically. There are various ways that you can organize it, but be sure to give older guests and families precedence because they'll be the ones who will be leaving early.
The best part is, of course, not getting your portrait done, but watching others squirm, laugh, and try to keep a straight face as their friends and family stand behind the artist and compare the unseen portrait with the person in question.
On the flipside, a quick cartoon of the couple can also be featured in the save-the-date, a more informal invite, the wedding website, or in the thank you card. Not only is it artsy, but it's also completely one of a kind.
A good artist can get a picture done within five to ten minutes, although it will take a bit longer for group photos. Look around your local college to find young artists who are itching to practice their portrait skills. The caricature doesn't have to look a lot like the person; ninety percent is just the experience!
