Wedding Dresses- What should you do with it after the big event?

Underwater Bride

With your big day quickly coming to a close, one last decision needs to be made...sell, trash or keep your dress. For the very sentimental, the thought of one day passing on your wedding gown encourages you to keep the dress while others either don’t have the means or desire to store it and prefer to recoup some of the costs and sell the dress. At the end of the day, you will do what’s best for you.

In more recent times, it is found that instead of selling/renting or storing the dress for possible future usage, many brides enjoy their dress to the fullest. The stage is usually filled with lots of picture taking to ensure the special moment is well preserved to last a life time even if the dress doesn’t.

This new trend also known as dress trashing would usually consist of pictures being taken of the bride and groom at the very end of the event; and allows the happy couple to enjoy activities they would otherwise avoid if trying to preserve their attire. Some of these activities would include, frolicking in the surf on the beach, running through the rain or any other spontaneous activities.

If you are not one to overly indulge in your inner child, especially on your wedding day, you may be willing to consider selling or donating your dress to a charity or a less fortunate bride. By either selling or renting the dress, you are able to recoup some of the cost for the wedding. The rental option works really well for destination weddings where couples pop in get married and then pop out. Charitable donation is also a good idea and affords someone less fortunate the opportunity of having a wedding dress they wouldn’t normally be able to afford.

At the end of it all, your personal preference plays a huge role in what you will do with your wedding dress after your big day. Just remember, to enjoy the day and worry about the dress after.
