Meme-Inspired Photography

Make Your Wedding Go Viral

After tearing myself from Ryan Gosling memes -- he's so sexy in Crazy, Stupid, Love, I sat down to write down this photography article but I couldn't stop thinking about memes. Many of them are darkly funny, but the recent Ryan Gosling ones are adorable and cute.

An internet meme is a link, word, or photograph that becomes extremely popular on the web. Many of them are pictures with hilarious captions! Haz cheezburger, anyone? As couples get increasingly tech savvy and the internet becomes a natural part of the planning process, it seems that weddings will also reflect internet culture. Other internet phenomenon include the music videos and slide shows that you can find on Youtube, Vimeo, and other sites.

Meme-styled photography seems a fun way for casual brides to announce their engagements, save-the-dates, serve as decor, or act as favors. While using internet standbys is fun, it will be even better to use your own. I thought it would be a great alternative to the traditional guestbook. Frankly, I never have anything to say besides wishing the best for the happy couple. However, if the guestbook were filled with photos of the couples, than guests can take a stab at writing captions. Digitize this further with an iPad and you can have a slideshow later on during the reception.
