Wedding Venue Planning Countdown

Ready, Get Set, Plan

By Natalie T.

Did you know that a wedding often requires three or four wedding venues? Rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and the post-wedding brunch? Yea, it's a doozy. Here's an easy timeline to help you schedule everything. You can also use this as a guideline for a six month engagement as well! Just remember that you need to confirm vendor details at least a week in advance!

Venue Countdown

12 months before: Reserve your ceremony and reception venues. Although you can finalize the guest list first, couples working within a limited budget (most of us) often work better by picking a venue they can afford and than whittling down or expanding the guest list. Also, it's easier to cut your guest list when you can't actually fit more people in reception room.

10 months before: Select your officiant and compile your guest list. Figure out who's on the A List and the B (backup) list. Remember that 20-30% guests typically can't make it.

8 Months before: Book the caterer, florist, DJ or band, and photographer. Recheck your budget. Extra savings means that you can splurge on something else…like your honeymoon!

6 months before: Meet with the vendors, research, and book your honeymoon.

4 months before: Schedule the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Double check the driving instructions before mailing out the invites.

1 week before: Confirm the vendor details such as who, what, where, and when. And have their phone numbers on your phone.
